Seneca-Cayuga Fire & EMS

The Seneca-Cayuga Fire Department was established in 2004 with twelve firefighters working as an on-call basis and staffing 2 brush engines. In 2007, a volunteer program was formed, and a Fire Chief/Emergency Manager was hired.

Today, there are 15 volunteers, and 1 paid staff. (Chief, Deputy Chief, 3 Captains, and 10 Firefighters) these personnel also hold National and State of Oklahoma Medical Licensures. The Department has 4 OSU Fire Service Training Instructors, 5 American Heart Association CPR Instructors, and in 2020 we gained our National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Authorized Training Center status. With the help of all of these instructors we are able to keep our training program moving forward.

The department’s current equipment consists of two type 1 Structure Engines, two Water Tenders, three Type 6 Brush Engines, one Command Unit, one Medical Response Unit, one Rehab Support Truck, two All-Terrain Fire Vehicles, one Breathing-Air Support Trailer, one portable Light Tower, and one Mobile Command Trailer.

As the Seneca-Cayuga Nation continues to grow at a rapid pace with new construction, so does the Fire Departments responsibility. Professionalism is of the utmost importance for Seneca-Cayuga Fire & EMS. The education of the department is extended to the public by means of lectures, school programs, and by public service announcements on social media.

Seneca-Cayuga Fire & EMS covers a district of 32 square miles, and all Federally owned Trust land, and all lands owned and/or operated by the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, with a population of approximately 3000 people. The average call volume is steadily increasing every year, and the complexity of calls continue to challenge our skills on a daily basis. We have, and will continue to secure mutual-aid, and auto-aid agreements with surrounding agencies, and will continue to maintain our BPA contracts with the Bureau of Indian Affairs/Department of Interior for fire suppression.
